Isle of Harris (9)
Harris - Scarista
Recognised as one of the most picturesque 9 holes courses in the world, the Isle of Harris Golf Club was first set up in 1930 and through hard work and dedication it is now considered to be a first class links course.
The club was set up in the 1930s, though there is evidence the links was used in Lord Leverhulme's time in the 1920s. It closed at the start of the Second World War and fell into disrepair until fewer than a dozen enthusiasts revived it in 1984; the course reopened in 1985 and the club was re-constituted with 39 members in 1986 (members had to leave the course each May for lambing). In 2000 the members bought the course after five years of negotiation. Nick Faldo played here in the early 1990s and left a signed £5 note in the honesty box — the 'Faldo Fiver' is now competed for every year.
