A championship links set in the dunes above a seven-mile beach on Islay's Laggan Bay — Willie Campbell's 1891 original, rebuilt to modern standards by DJ Russell and now the centrepiece of the Another Place, The Machrie resort.
Founded in 1891, when Prestwick professional Willie Campbell spent two days on Islay laying out the links and declared 'this place was made for gowf'. It opened with a match between Campbell and 1883 Open champion Willie Fernie, and in 1901 the Great Triumvirate — Vardon, Taylor and Braid — came to Islay for a challenge match. DJ Russell redesigned the course between 2013 and 2018, reopening it for play in 2017 alongside the new 43-room hotel.
