Luxurious stone cottages, two lovingly restored historic hotels, the world’s most natural golf course, five restaurants and pubs, and a rejuvenating full-service spa—together they make up Scotland’s most heralded luxury resort. Machrihanish Dunes has been recognized more than 40 times for its excellence since it opened in 2009, not the least of which includes The Ugadale Hotel’s designation as “Best Hotel” for both 2015 and 2016, and our characteristically high (and always climbing) course rankings.

Machrihanish Golf Club, established in 1876, is one of Scotland's most remote and spectacular courses. Located on the Kintyre peninsula, the course features one of golf's most famous opening holes that drives across the beach. Designed by Old Tom Morris, the course has remained largely unchanged, offering authentic links golf in a wild and beautiful setting. The course is known for its natural terrain, blind shots, and dramatic coastal views.
Signature Holes
The 1st hole, "Battery," is legendary - the drive must carry across Machrihanish Bay beach, one of golf's great opening shots. The 5th "Long Hole" is a challenging par 5. The 13th "Grey Mare's Tail" requires precision. Several holes offer spectacular views across to Islay and Jura. The course features many blind shots typical of Victorian golf design.
