Prestwick Golf Club, founded in 1851 by the Earl of Eglinton and 56 others including Old Tom Morris, is where The Open Championship was born. The first 12 Open Championships (1860-1872) were held exclusively at Prestwick, with Young Tom Morris winning four consecutive Opens here. Old Tom Morris was the first keeper of the green and professional. The course retains many blind shots and quirky features that make it one of golf's most unique and historic venues. The club alternated hosting The Open with St Andrews and Musselburgh until 1925.
Signature Holes
The 1st "Railway" immediately confronts players with a blind drive over the Pow Burn. The 3rd "Cardinal" features a massive bunker that dominates the hole. The 5th "Himalayas" requires a blind approach over a massive sand dune. The 17th "Alps" is famous worldwide - a blind shot over towering dunes to a hidden green. The Cardinal bunker at the 3rd is one of golf's most famous hazards.

The course is renowned for its challenging outward nine along the Ayrshire coast and the famous Postage Stamp, the shortest hole in Open Championship golf. The club was granted "Royal" status in 1978. The course tests golfers with tight fairways, deep bunkers, and the ever-present coastal wind.
Signature Holes
The 8th hole, "Postage Stamp," is golf's most famous short par 3 at just 123 yards. Named for its tiny green, this hole has produced both aces and disasters in Open Championships. The Ailsa Course at Trump Turnberry opened in 1946 on the site of a World War II airfield. Mackenzie Ross designed the new course, routing it spectacularly along the Ayrshire coastline. The course has hosted four memorable Open Championships (1977, 1986, 1994, 2009), including the legendary "Duel in the Sun" between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus in 1977. The lighthouse, dating from 1873, is one of golf's most iconic landmarks. A significant restoration in 2016 returned the course to championship standards, with several holes rebuilt closer to the dramatic coastline.
Signature Holes
The 9th hole, "Bruce's Castle," plays around the ruins to a clifftop green with the lighthouse as backdrop - one of golf's most photographed holes. The 10th plays directly toward the lighthouse and Ailsa Craig. The 16th "Wee Burn" is a risk-reward short par 4. The closing hole provides a stern finishing test with the iconic hotel overlooking the green. The completely rebuilt 11th through 13th stretch now plays dramatically along the rocky shoreline.

The club has hosted numerous championships including Open Championship qualifying and the Scottish Open. The course is renowned for its fair but demanding test and excellent greens.
Signature Holes
The 6th "Skerrie" plays along the shore with magnificent views across to Arran. The 7th is a long par 4 that tests even the longest hitters. The 13th requires precision with the railway close on the right. The par 3s are particularly strong, each requiring different clubs and strategies. The closing holes provide a stern finish with the wind typically a major factor.
